Back home: should you delete your travel eSIM, and does it work at home?
Back home, two settings put your phone the way it was, and one choice saves you reinstalling next time: switch the travel eSIM off rather than deleting it.
Switch back
- Set mobile data back to your home SIM: Settings → Mobile Data (Android: Network & internet → SIMs).
- Turn off data roaming for the travel eSIM, or switch the line off altogether.
- Your home SIM needs no data roaming at home; leave it off for your next trip.
Switch it off, do not delete it
- A deleted eSIM usually cannot be installed again from the same code.
- Kept, it can take a new plan or a renewal in My cards for your next trip, with no reinstall; the card’s page shows which plans it can take.
- Need the space? Phones hold several eSIMs; a mainland-China iPhone holds two, so there you may have to choose.
Does it work at home?
A plan for a destination works only there, so a Japan or Europe eSIM gets no data at home. A plan that covers mainland China (some multi-country plans do, and our SIM card for the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) works on the mainland too, within its days and data. The usual mistakes
